Whole School Overview

OUR CURRICULUM

At Lace Hill Academy we are truly ambitious for our children and work to breakdown any barriers to learning to provide every child with the opportunity to thrive, irrespective of their lived experience. We aim for all our children to acquire key attributes during their journey with us that enable personal growth and success. We want children to leave our school able to:

  • Be a confident person
  • Be an independent thinker and self-starter
  • Empathise with others
  • Have an inquisitive mind
  • Take risks with their learning
  • Bounce back and move forward when faced with a challenge
  • Be proactive and innovative
  • Have a sense of belonging

These aims form an important part of how our curriculum is taught, with teachers leading by example. (Please refer to our teaching policy) We teach a carefully sequenced, knowledge-rich curriculum which aims to inspire pupils and promote excellent outcomes for all.

While the National Curriculum objectives form the basis of our curriculum to ensure our children are given the universal knowledge they need to build on at secondary school, the Lace Hill curriculum content has been carefully chosen by our own subject leaders and is organised in a coherent way, ensuring children can build on their knowledge from year to year and make links. In this way, the knowledge in the curriculum is cumulative, constructing firm foundations from which children can progress and develop deeper conceptual understanding and subject-specific knowledge and skills over time.

Memory is the residue of thought so we believe it is important children get the opportunity to regularly revisit and build upon their learning to ensure their long term memory is altered, as a result of our curriculum and the teaching of it. Curriculum coherence ensures that teaching does not jump from topic to topic, but enables children to develop knowledge over time, as well as a love of subjects. Subject content is crucial to this approach- the rich content of the curriculum inspires children and plants the seeds for a lifetime of learning. Lessons are taught with our aims and values at the heart of them.

The effectiveness of our curriculum is carefully monitored by our subject leaders and our Senior Leadership Team. They support staff on an individual and team basis to implement the curriculum, provide CPD to enhance subject knowledge, support with planning, identify areas of strength and development in their subject and address the areas of development.

Our Teaching and Learning Policy below outlines our key strategies to ensure a first rate education, broadening our children's horizons and giving them all the tools they need to aid and drive them in a quest for success.

Please be assured ‘Google classroom’ and ‘Google meet’ are very safe and secure for your child to attend and is backed by the Department for Education.

Any work uploaded on to the platform can be accessed on Google classroom
