Lace Hill Academy

Year 1

Spring Term

Maths

In Maths Year 1 have been focusing on shape and measurement. The children have enjoyed learning how to identify 2D and 3D shapes as well as measuring weight using scales, measuring length using rulers and tape measures and investigating volume using different containers.

Science

In Science the children have been learning all about animals. We have been categorising animals by their characteristics, what they eat and the classifications. We were very lucky to have Vets 4 Pets and Chalkie the dog visit us as they showed us how to listen to our heart beats, look after animals and how we should behave around pets.

R.E

In R.E children have been learning about the different parables Jesus told and we tried to develop our understanding of who Jesus was. In the second half term we specifically looked at the build up to Easter and looked at what happened before Jesus died as well as his resurrection.

Topic

In topic we have been looking at important inventions such as the railway train, telephone and the internet. As well as looking at inventions we have also looked at inventors, how women have made an impact and designing our own inventions. Batman found out that the children had been coming up with fantastic ideas and asked the children if they could help him design a new vehicle he could use to catch the bad guys with.

Music

As part of our music curriculum the children have enjoyed learning about different types of music and where they have come from. The children particularly enjoyed learning about Salsa music and listening to orchestral instruments.

Well done to everyone!

Autumn Term

R.E

In R.E children have been learning about different beliefs and values. The children enjoyed listening to Mr Canning explain all about Hanukah. At the end of the term the children did a fantastic job in performing the nativity ‘Stable by Starlight’! The children enjoyed learning all about the birth of Jesus and performing in front of all their friends and family.

Topic

In topic we have been learning all about our local and the wider area. We had a fantastic trip to Buckingham town centre where we looked at the environment, went to the library and learnt about the Old Gaol. The children also enjoyed learning about the United Kingdom and its capital cities.

Music

As part of our music curriculum the children have worked extremely hard to perform a Nativity. The children have enjoyed rehearsing alongside Mrs Bradford’s class learning lines, songs and actions together. The children should be extremely proud of their achievements.

Well done to everyone
