Theme

At Lace Hill Academy we teach history and geography through creative themes designed by Chris Quigley Education.

What are our creative themes?

How do the themes develop my child’s skills in history and geography?

Key objectives from the National Curriculum are taught through each theme and built upon each year. This enables children to gain in depth knowledge and a passion for our past and the world we live in.

Below are the key objectives for history and geography that your child will revisit and build upon each year.

History

Geography

To investigate and interpret the past.

To investigate places.

To build an overview of world history.

To investigate patterns.

To understand chronology.

To communicate geographically.

To communicate historically.

How do we bring learning alive for your child?

Opportunities to enrich your child’s learning are offered through visits to local places of interest and educational establishments further afield like London or Birmingham.

Outside experts are also invited to work alongside the children to enthuse and develop their enquiring minds, answering their questions of ‘why’ and ‘how’?

How is your child's work assessed?

During each theme unit your child will participate in a range of assessment activities within lessons and their class teacher will measure their skills progression using the Year Group Assessment statements. Please click here to see the list of the statements for each year group.

Finally…

It is an exciting time here at Lace Hill Academy and we look forward to observing how our themes work with our children in developing their skills in history and geography.
